Visits will take place only on Saturday March 29 and Sunday March 30. Visits last 2 hours, only by registration via our website.
In 2019, the Pays-d'Enhaut Forestry Group created a xylotheque, a storage facility for wood intended for luthiers.
The hayloft adjoining the Rougemont presbytery houses a project that the Group has been keen on for a long time: to set up a place where the resonance wood used for making stringed instruments is stored.
Between Rougemont and La Videmanette, the Arses forest offers an optimal environment for the production of resonance wood: the particular location of this forest massif in a valley between 1000 and 1500 meters above sea level facing due north allows for slow plant growth.
The tree pickers of the Pays-d'Enhaut Forestry Group identify the resonance wood and cut it when the moon is favorable. Once cut and dried, the quarters are shaped. Then, the wood rests and dries according to the seasons in the airy room of the Xylothèque, until a violin maker decides to acquire it and make it sing.
With this visit, the Pays d'Enhaut Forestry Group invites you to discover part of the route that leads from the tree to the musical instrument. The visits will begin in the forest and end at the Xylothèque.
