From the Bronze Age to the present day, glass has been a highly valued material and a popular material because its particular properties allow the creation of objects with an inimitable plasticity that can never be achieved with other materials and techniques. Gemstones were initially imitated with glass art, but soon a very individual design language of glass developed, which, in addition to the special techniques of glass processing, also incorporated techniques from other handicraft areas such as ceramics, mosaics or gemstone processing. After a short excursion into the history of glass, the material, the materials required and the tools for the individual work steps are presented. The team of authors goes into the processes and firing cycles of melting, sinking, casting and working with glass paste in a detailed and practice-oriented manner - knowledge that is of crucial importance for the processing of glass. In order to put the learned techniques into practice, the last chapter shows step by step the production of different workpieces - a lampshade, a bowl with enclosed motifs or a decorative vase. The gallery, with attractive kiln-formed glass works by artists from all over the world, encourages trying new and innovative things. Anyone who is interested in the diverse working techniques of kiln-formed glass will find a clear and comprehensive introduction to the subject in this book.
