Kleinkariert: Wege zum Muster im Textildesign

Textile crafts

Checks and stripes, dots and flowers, cranes and diamonds - they are on our textiles. But what is behind their arrangement, how do they get there and why? "Kleinkariert" gives an insight into the concepts and processes of pattern creation and textile design. In the first part of the book, the theoretical basics are discussed in an overview: What is a mood board for, how is a pattern researched and how is a motif implemented on an entire surface? What influence do colors, trend forecasts, fabric structures have? Information on the development of a collection, on new materials and new technologies and thoughts on ethics and sustainability in textile production can also be found here. In the second part, concrete design examples using many images illustrate the process of pattern development − from the initial idea through research to the finished design. They take the reader on a journey through the emergence of different patterns. Frida Kahlo, the color black, nature or special materials such as drinking straws or cassette tapes were the inspiration for Nathalie Pellon’s designs and led to her attractive textile designs.
