La ferronnerie d'art : guide pratique

Metal crafts

Artistic ironwork is aimed at ironworkers and apprentices wishing to work according to the rules of the art, as well as all those interested in old buildings and the renovation of architectural heritage. Faithful to traditional techniques, it invites the creation and discovery of new processes using the most modern technologies and materials. The first part presents the technical bases of ironwork: study of materials and tools, working methods, handling of tools, secrets and tricks. It also describes all heat treatment operations: quenching, tempering, annealing, surface quenching, etc. The second part puts into practice the techniques acquired by studying concrete projects. By following step by step the explanations largely illustrated by more than 1700 diagrams, the craftsman will in turn be able to create grilles for doors and windows, locks, knockers... in the different styles: Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, contemporary. , etc.
