The ceiling, “6th side of the box” holds a major place in the decoration of the interior space. In "French", "Italian", "coffered" or covered with stucco, it was sometimes treated so richly that it was considered at certain times as the decorative element par excellence. This second volume brings together around this theme a selection of plates published in the Journal-Manuel de Peintures when eclecticism, historicism, neoclassicism but also the search for a new art shared the tastes of an increasingly wide audience.
