Marmor macht Schule: Vom Werden und Wirken der Bildhauerschule von Peccia

Stone crafts

In 1984 a school of sculpture was established in Peccia in the heart of the Ticino Alps. From humble beginnings, it has grown into a thriving art school that has become an integral part of today’s Swiss educational landscape. With its wide range of courses, it opens up the broad field of designing with marble and other materials for the students. She also offers sculptural training over several years. She reaches a wide public with her exhibitions: Peccia has become a place of culture thanks to her. This book is the first attempt to make the unique school of sculpture legible in its development and work. It tells how she felt at home in the Ticino mountain region; how she made their resources – the alpine ambience and above all the marble from nearby Pizzo Castello – fruitful for her educational work. It tells how artists, scientists and course participants from Germany and abroad teach and learn in open course communities. With texts by various authors and numerous illustrations, the book is aimed at all readers who are interested in design. It also sees itself as a contribution to the discourse on aesthetic education and, last but not least, provides important impulses on the subject of cultural and economic promotion of alpine peripheral regions.
