What do people need shoes for? To run? For protection? As jewelry? Shoes are cultural assets. Shoes dictate gait and posture. And shoes are chic. If they are then also made by yourself, they can become a real favourite. In the first part of the book, Josephine Barbe leads through three hundred years of shoe history and reports on shoe manufacture, shoe fashion and some anecdotes from the world of shoes. The shoe workshop and the materials used by the shoemaker are presented, as well as the anatomy of the shoe and the techniques used to make it. In the second part, twelve attractive leather shoes, which were mainly designed by the shoemaker Franz Kälin, are presented step by step. The selection ranges from ballerinas to zebra boots to men’s sandals. The book is aimed at beginners who want to make their own mules, as well as shoe lovers who want to delve deeper into the subject of shoes.
