Basel - Exquisite costumes from the Venice carnival balls

Richly decorated contemporary unique pieces according to models from yesteryear, Spielzeug Welten Museum Basel, 21 April - 7 October 2018

The temporary exhibition is imbued with the grace and mystical spirit of carnival in the sumptuous Venetian palaces. It centers on the exquisite costumes that still lend their legendary extravagance to the Venice carnival balls today.

The costumes in the temporary exhibition come from a private collection; they were made to measure by the best craftsmen of their corporation. Mention must be made of the exquisite costumes by Jacky Blanchard, the marvelous parasols and umbrellas of the Master of Art Michel Heurtault, as well as the magnificent fans of Sylvain Le Guen. All the raw materials, as well as the work are from France or respectively from Europe. Certain practically forgotten techniques were reactivated, other skills have unfortunately since disappeared with their Master of Art.
