Basel - Iconic bags and precious goods. History of a timeless accessory

Exhibition at the Toy Worlds Museum Basel. 19 October 2019 – 5 April 2020

This exhibition presenting around 400 pieces allows you to immerse yourself in the history of bags from 1550, whether in fabric, tapestry, pearls or leather. The journey ends with exclusive and original bags from the catwalk, designed by contemporary designers and artists, including pieces from the famous Úna Burke, playful objects from Stasha Chimbur or even luxury bags from Ming Ray of London. The image is completed with bags as works of art, with Barbara Ségal’s alabaster piece or the creation of Dutch conceptual artist Ted Noten, two unique objects.

In cooperation with Liza Snook from the Virtual Shoe Museum in The Hague, works by more than 40 renowned designers and artists from 14 countries are exhibited in Basel, as well as loans from private collectors, galleries and two museums in the Netherlands. Among them are exquisite bags from the Tassenmuseum Amsterdam.

In summary, the exhibition is heaven on earth for bag lovers and can only be viewed in Basel.
