Winner of a Leenaards Cultural Grant, the Lausanne designer has been training for a year in ironwork with the idea of taking over the Chexbres forge. She swapped her "skirts" for overalls and heavy shoes, pulled her hair back to reveal her clear eyes, and gave up the manicure of her hands, now blackened by metal residue. "I always knew I wanted to become a designer, but I never imagined being a blacksmith," admits Bertille Laguet. Yet it is behind the crackling fire of a forge, between anvils and hammers, that the young woman has decided to place her future.
