France - Training in craftsmanship, a way out for former "top of the class"

The World, Sylvie Lecherbonnie, February 12, 2019

More and more bac + 5 graduates are retraining through a short course. A quest for meaning that is accompanied by a drop in purchasing power.

One in three new craftsmen is now the result of a retraining, according to figures from the Permanent Assembly of Chambers of Trades and Crafts (APCMA). And 8% have a baccalaureate + 5, half of them in engineering. Figures that Bernard Stalter, president of the APCMA is delighted with: “700,000 jobs remain unfilled in the craft industry each year, and one in five business leaders is over 55 years old. These reconversions are a real breeding ground for the vitality of our sector. »
