Geneva - Teapots on the go, birth and evolution of an art of living

Ariana Museum, June 21, 2019 - September 13, 2020

Born at the beginning of the 16th century in China, the teapot will experience a dazzling diffusion. It reaches Europe through the great East India Companies, powerful commercial enterprises. More than a simple utilitarian object, now well known in our regions, the teapot represents an art of living and responds to habits and customs that will spread in the highest social strata. Its use will impose itself more widely throughout the 18th century. This exhibition, designed by cultural mediation, also appeals to your senses. In addition to sight, the sense of smell is rarely invited to museums, not to mention a few activities around taste. The diversity of styles, decorations or added elements – grips, necks or handles – reveal a fashion in perpetual evolution.
