Karl Lagerfeld’s Legacy: Tribute to Craftsmanship and Craftsmanship

Yesterday, February 19, 2019, a legend of contemporary design, Karl Lagerfeld, passed away. Born in 1933, he was a German creative director, fashion designer, artist, photographer and caricaturist based in Paris. Recognized as creative director of the French fashion brand Chanel since 1983, he has honored crafts.

Lagerfeld began promoting crafts as a concept in 2002 to celebrate the efforts of the workshops acquired by Chanel. Desrues, Chanel’s longtime button supplier, was the first artisanal house to become a collaborator. However, there are currently 26 houses representing every imaginable fashion skill, including gloves (Causse), chapels (Maison Michel), goldsmiths (Goossens) and cashmere (Barrie). Its desire to preserve endangered arts and crafts.
