La Chaux-de-Fonds, watchmaking crossroads

Report by William Türler, June 20, 2017

La Chaux-de-Fonds has long been known by another name: “Watchmaking Metropolis”. The practice of watchmaking dates back to the end of the 17th century. Over the years, the early craftsmanship turned into industry. Today, all watchmaking activities find their cradle there and the city lives to their rhythm. It is therefore quite natural that many brands have established themselves there. Watchmaking has shaped the face of La Chaux-de-Fonds”, emphasizes Willy Schweizer, curator of the Girard-Perregaux museum.
