RFI - An NGO for the conservation of handicrafts in Afghanistan

RFI, Sonia Ghezali, August 29, 2017

Carpentry, miniature, calligraphy, goldsmithing; Afghanistan is full of ancestral know-how. Some have disappeared, others have survived the decades of war that undermine the country. An institute created by the British NGO Turquoise Mountain has made it possible to save some of them by promoting the transmission and training of new generations by relying on master craftsmen. An identical project is underway in the Jordanian refugee camps to safeguard Syrian crafts.
