Vacheron Constantin or the art of listening to time

Le Point, Hervé Gallet, December 2, 2019

It is in the tropical heat of Singapore and under the greedy gaze of collectors in the region that Vacheron Constantin unveiled this Sunday its new thematic collection, “The Music of Time”. This is dedicated to sound watches, with a whole series of minute-repeater or Grande Sonnerie watches, two of the complications considered by connoisseurs to be the most noble of Haute Horlogerie. "Imagined at the end of the 15th century, at a time when people still lit by candlelight, this type of watch was used to ’hear’ the time rather than to ’read’ it, in the dark", explains Christian Selmoni, Style and Heritage Director of the Geneva house. The latter sees in sound watches what he calls "the last frontier". The one that surrounds the watchmaking territory offering even more possibilities for technical innovations.

"Today, it is in the field of the minute repeater complication that a watchmaker will seek to achieve his masterpiece."
