The carpenter prepares, shapes and builds constructions in wood or wood-derived materials, such as individual houses, halls, agricultural buildings, bridges and churches. They build, repair or renovate traditional frames, roofs, facades and staircases, and carry out various wood protection, thermal and sound insulation work, as well as protection against humidity. According to a plan, they choose their wood (oak, chestnut or fir) and sometimes exploit their natural curvatures. They cut the main parts, such as trusses, beams, purlins, rafters, tenons and mortises, to assemble them.
