Slate workers primarily work with natural slate, which they use to cover the roofs of new and existing buildings. They also work on countertops, paving, and decorative elements. This profession requires precision and mastery of traditional techniques: preparing the substrate, shaping and drilling the slates, and installing them with nails or hooks. Slate workers also handle metal finishes (connections, flashings) and ensure the overall waterproofing and durability. They can work on heritage renovations or contemporary constructions.
There is no specific training for the slate worker profession. However, knowledge transfer could be possible.
A few concepts are covered in the initial CFC roofing training. The duration is 3 years. You can find all the information on orientation.ch
