Today, we use felt to make valuable clothes, jewelery and eye-catching bags, but also designer knick-knacks and performance objects. Felt is both: a source of inspiration for contemporary design and a traditional everyday material. Marlène Lang goes back to the origins of felt production in Kyrgyzstan and Turkey, the cradles of the felt craft, and uses many photos and drawings to describe how traditional carpets, hats and coats are made. Finally, with images and descriptions of the work of contemporary felt designers, the bridge is built into the present day, in which boundless desire to experiment produces fantastic objects from this traditional material.
