Gestalten mit Metall: Schweißen, Löten, Schmieden

Metal crafts

Metals have been processed into objects for thousands of years. The result is often wonderful objects that combine the useful with the beautiful. Even today we are still fascinated by metal and the possibilities it offers. This book presents the basics for designing with metal. After a brief look at the history of metalworking, the first part introduces metallurgy: What are metals and alloys? What are the properties of the different types of metal? What do commercial metal parts look like and what are they suitable for? The chapter on tools and machines presents the basic equipment for working with metal and gives important safety recommendations. The basic techniques are then treated in detail, cutting, connecting and forming, surface treatment, the basics of forging. A separate detailed chapter is devoted to the techniques of welding and soldering. The practical part is about the concrete implementation of the learned techniques. The production of different objects is shown step by step: a chest made of iron and aluminum, a garden gate made of iron, a side table made of stainless steel, an iron door knocker, a jewelry box made of copper sheet. The many pictures of metal objects by various artists tempt you to create your own with metal.
