Muster im Rapport: Die Grundlagen für Design, Mode und Architektur

Applied arts professions

A look at the floor or through the window is enough to discover a motif that is repeated several times and combined to form a pattern. Such repeating patterns are sometimes purely decorative, like the designs of fabrics, or functional, like the arrangement of keys on a computer keyboard. They can also be a combination of the decorative and the functional, for example in decorative brickwork. The key to understanding and designing repeat patterns is symmetry. The experienced author Paul Jackson also makes the rules of symmetry accessible to “mathephobic” designers. It shows how many wonderful possibilities the creation of patterns offers and that, above all, it is surprisingly easy.
