Ralf Assmann studied theatre sculpture and specialised in the construction and work with “ritual masks” after having sculpted in theatres and operas for a long time. In 2017, he founded the “TanzKunstWerk”, a space that focuses on performance and bodywork. Masks play a major role here, which are created in his studio from natural and sustainable materials.

For Ralf Assmann, masks are not just objects, but serve as a gateway to a new experience that contains wisdom and knowledge. He devotes himself to the principle of deceleration and the magic of transformation. His masks are used in films, music videos and his own dance theatre projects. In mask-making workshops and social art projects, he always constructs unique masks in an artistic way with young and old.
