About
Passionate about wood, Daniel Formigoni has many facets. First a cabinetmaker, he became a luthier at the age of 15 and specialized in the making of old plucked and bowed string instruments. Later, he learned Japanese lacquer and became a bow maker. At the same time, he trained in musicology and art history. Since 2015, he has been the curator of the Musée du bois in Aubonne.
In his workshop located in a former prison in Vevey, Daniel Formigoni works as an independent luthier. Here, he makes his instruments, with a predilection for lutes and guitars. From drawing to lacquering, he glues, sculpts, varnishes, paints, planes and uses materials such as wood, ivory, tortoiseshell, gold or silver. He also restores old instruments.
