About
Born in the French Pyrenees, Philippe Fromont has devoted his life to music since completing his baccalaureate. He ventured as an autodidact in the restoration of instruments of the violin family, guitars or banjo and left Paris to settle in the Neuchâtel mountains in 1976.
Violin making has always occupied an important place in his life; he opened his workshop La Salomé in 2008 at Les Planchettes, where he draws the energy to tame the wood of character in which he shapes his instruments. Woods, ropes, skins, horsehair and brass. The La Salomé workshop is a mixture of that of the carpenter and the luthier. In his magnificent building which adjoins the forest, Philippe Fromont restores all the stringed instruments in the world.
