Yvan Hostettler
Calligrapher, printer
Genève

« Calligraphy allows you to recharge your batteries like yoga: position, breathing and concentration are things so simple that you would almost have forgotten them. »

About

After an apprenticeship as a driver-typographer, Yvan Hostettler turned to graphic design, typography and then calligraphy, for which he trained in California. A member of the Swiss calligraphy society, he offers, among other things, workshops to discover the Latin letter from Roman times to the present day, passing through the Middle Ages.

« Typography, like the piano in music, is the best basis for composing a profession in communication. »

Alongside the calligraphy courses and summer internships that Yvan Hostettler gives to the Martin Bodmer Foundation, he carries out numerous collaborations, in particular with the Ethnographic Museum of Geneva. Self-taught with many facets, this designer and writer also offers, as part of his Green Plan association, workshops with a printing press dating from the 19th century.
