Quitterie Ithurbide
Ceramist
Lausanne

« I started by putting in volume characters taken from paintings that I liked. I felt like I brought them to life. »

About

Quitterie Ithurbide was admitted to the Beaux-arts de Paris at the age of 18. After training in film sets, she developed a project of relief painting interpretations for the blind. Since then, the Geneva Museum of Art and History has regularly commissioned bas-reliefs from him in order to show part of its collection through touch. She exhibits regularly in Switzerland and abroad.

« To make light understood by touch in my bas-reliefs, I use matte enamels for the shadow and shiny enamels for the most illuminated parts of the painting. »

Quitterie Ithurbide works with ceramics as well as porcelain or stoneware to bring his sculptures to life. Giant prawns, octopuses or classics of art history – like Munch’s The Scream or Van Gogh’s Self-Portrait – interpreted in three dimensions are then offered to the touch. These bas-reliefs make it possible to feel new emotions for all audiences.
