About
Monique Schenk discovered the art of glassmaking by chance thanks to the base of an Art Nouveau lamp that needed a new shade. She developed her knowledge by taking classes with international glass artists, teaching herself, and experimenting extensively.
In her studio, located in a former boiler room, Monique Schenk creates bowls, vases, light fixtures, and other objects. They are formed in a kiln: the handmade glass is first cut and melted to form a homogeneous sheet, before being shaped during a second firing. Glass, with its transparency or opacity, its luminosity, or its particular surface when sandblasted, lends itself wonderfully to this play. Structuring, light refraction, or even surface treatment allow for an infinite number of different effects.
