« In a traditional cut, the graphic characteristics are important: the geometry, the distribution of black and white areas determine the visual expressiveness. »

About

In his spare time, Marc Schweizer devotes himself to his passion: paper cutting. At the age of 8, he learned this traditional trade. Since then, he has been cutting patterns with a knife that are inspired by both his environment and traditional cuts. In February 2019, he received the third prize for young talent in fine crafts.

« It's a balance for me. When I work on a cut, I disconnect completely, I am in another world. »

In his chalet in the middle of the mountains, Marc Schweizer creates his silhouettes, playing with geometric shapes, symmetry and the balance between black and white surfaces. A cut can take several months when it comes to detailing the leaves of a tree or the feathers of a bird. In 2016, Schweizer joined the association “Scherenschnitt Schweiz” and organized its first exhibition.
