Basel - Design on Christmas tree
Art Glass - The Tree Ornaments of the 1920s, November 17, 2018 – February 10, 2019
Our little Christmas exhibition this year will be under the sign of a very special and relatively unknown tree ornament. This is the so-called Art Glass of the 1920s. The artistic evolution towards glass ornaments related to the applied arts was influenced by the new Art Deco movement. The temporary exhibition will present in a completely new setting these extraordinary and so fragile Christmas tree ornaments. The loan from Swiss collector Alfred Dünnenberger allowed us to adorn five trees with animals and other glass objects. The blue color of the fir trees blends in a striking harmony with the glass art objects that adorn them.
