Book - From Tapestry to Fiber Art. The Biennials of Lausanne 1962-1995

The first book on the Lausanne International Tapestry Biennials

Illustrated with 200 reproductions of works and views of mostly unpublished rooms, this book retraces the history of the Biennials of Lausanne. It bears witness to the importance and vitality of these exhibitions – sixteen editions, 911 works, more than 600 artists from all over the world – and their impact abroad.

At the end of the Second World War, the art of tapestry experienced a new boom. Throughout Europe, national workshops and factories are participating in a current of renewal. By organizing a Tapestry Biennial, the city of Lausanne became, from 1962, the international showcase for contemporary textile art. A place of encounter, inspiration and confrontation, this event is the privileged platform for the main developments in the medium, which lead from wall tapestry to textile sculpture and Fiber Art.

Written and directed by Giselle Eberhard Cotton and Magali Junet, with contributions from Janis Jefferies, Odile Contamin, Keiko Kawashima, Marta Kowalewska, Jenelle Porter and Eric Rochat.
