La Chaux-de-Fonds - The art of paillonnage

Interview with Christian Lattmann, CEO of Jaquet Droz, July 2, 2017, text Brice Lechevalier

Paillonnage, which belongs to the art of enamelling, consists of placing tiny patterns or sequins cut out of gold or silver leaf called ornamental paillons and covering them with a translucent enamel fondant.

"The demand for these creations is getting stronger and stronger, our customers are looking for this artistic and artisanal dimension expressed by our seven artists who only produce limited series. This year we have introduced a certificate that they sign to give an additional dimension to their works and total transparency to customers who appreciate this relationship with the artist who created their piece," says Christian Lattmann, CEO of Jaquet Droz.
