Vaud Culture Foundation, September 22, 2017

Awarded by the Fondation vaudoise pour la culture, the 2017 prize for intangible cultural heritage, in the amount of 20,000 francs, is a spotlight on a personality from the canton whose action has greatly contributed to the perpetuation, evolution and transmission of a cultural element of the intangible heritage of Vaud.

Anita Porchet was born in 1961 in La Chaux-de-Fonds. She was only twelve years old when Pierre Schneeberger, her godfather, himself an engraver and enameller, introduced her to enamel, this centuries-old art. After a scientific maturity, Anita Porchet follows the preparatory year of the Higher School of Applied Arts of La Chaux-de-Fonds and continues at the Cantonal School of Art of Lausanne where she obtains in 1984 her diploma of studies general artistic, engraving and enamel option. In 1985, she received her secondary and higher education certificate. Anita Porchet continues her practical training in enamel with the Geneva enamellers Elisabeth Mottu-Juillerat and Suzanne Rohr. Since 1995, it has collaborated with well-known watchmakers in the artistic professions, for which it has produced numerous objects, the most striking of which to date are: the Aube sur le lac pocket watch, created and produced on the occasion of its 175th anniversary of Patek Philippe; the wristwatch created by Vacheron Constantin for the 30th anniversary of the Association for the Radiation of the Paris Opera, with the reproduction of the ceiling painted by Marc Chagall of the Garnier Opera in Paris painted by Marc Chagall, as well as eleven dials representing different details of the ceiling; the Yves Piaget variety watch representing a rose; several dials for Hermès inspired by the famous silk squares, using different enameling techniques; several dials for Chanel using certain motifs from the Coromandel panels of Coco Chanel’s private apartments. Anita Porchet travels, exhibitions and enameling demonstrations in Switzerland and abroad, notably in Tokyo, Osaka, Florence, New York, Paris, London, Shanghai and Hong Kong. She receives several distinctions for her work, her fundamental role, her perseverance and her independence in the revitalization of an endangered discipline. Sought after by many brands, Anita Porchet has never made any concessions on her independent status.
