Nicolas Regamey, typographer and Alessandro Longo, engraver in Lausanne, brilliantly inaugurated the brand new form of mediation offered by the arcades Métiers d’art Suisse: The craftsman in residence
From Tuesday March 10 to Sunday March 15, in the difficult context that we are experiencing and in the middle of the week of crisis preceding the health security measures, Nicolas Regamey from Atelier Typo de la Cité and Alessandro Longo from Atelier Verssso, invested brilliantly the arcades Métiers d’art Suisse to make their ephemeral workshop.
It is with the professionalism and the extraordinary creativity that we know them, that they transformed this gloomy week into a talented week, rich in beautiful things, "magical" one could say!
During their residency, they produced the original edition of Portrait : a 50-page book, printed in 50 copies, in 5 days. Made entirely by hand, using 19th century techniques and tools and using two hand presses, this book compiles old typographical anecdotes and an original engraving representing the two craftsmen at work in front of their press.
With around seventy visitors, this inaugural week portends great moments to come at the arcades, confirming the legitimacy of Swiss Crafts on the Platform 10 site as a cultural player at the crossroads of fine arts and applied arts.
We were able to see throughout this week, young and old alike marvel, activate the levers, caress the leaden letters and put their hands in ink. Everyone was able to participate in the printing work and discover the techniques that make up our extraordinary craft heritage.
Thank you Gentlemen for the enthusiasm with which you embarked on this adventure, thank you for your sense of pedagogy which delighted your visitors, thank you for making crafts continue.
