Peasant-watchmaker, from workbench to myth

Arcinfo, Pascal Fleury, February 10, 2020

In the Jura Arc, the history of watchmaking is closely linked to the expansion of home working. It is the story of a people with gnarled arms, but with nimble fingers, capable of taming the horse and mastering time. It is the story of little people, living modestly on an ungrateful land, in the harsh and austere climate of the Jura Arc, but whose fame has crossed the seas and oceans. It is the story of ingenious craftsmen, resourceful craftsmen and merchants who have contributed to the reputation of the Switzerland of watches, banks and chocolate. A legendary and yet very real story: that of the peasants
