Exhibition at the Iron and Railway Museum, from August 30 to November 27, 2016
The exhibition traces the history and techniques of damask steel, including wootz, and will introduce you to exceptional pieces, old and contemporary, made from these materials. You will learn what role the Iron Museum played in the rediscovery of damask in Europe in the 1980s by hosting Bill Moran for a one-of-a-kind blacksmithing course in 1985. About twenty blacksmiths, Swiss, French and also Americans took part to this course, in order to learn the forgotten secrets of damask. You will see their work from then and now in a one-of-a-kind exhibition, mixing past and present, history and techniques.
