Coopers make or repair containers for winemaking and decorative objects. They primarily work with solid wood (oak, acacia, chestnut, larch) using appropriate machines and tools. They are responsible for their creations, from the initial design to the final product. They handle customer contact and manage administrative tasks. They are also knowledgeable about the stages of grape winemaking.
An initial vocational training certificate (CFC) for cooper is obtained through an apprenticeship. The program lasts 3 years. Courses are held in Brienz, BE. Further training is available.
