The mother-of-pearl uses various shells (pearl oyster, burgau, in particular) which offer a wide range of colors: white, black, iridescent, green, red, pink, purple, blue, etc. He works the different layers of mother-of-pearl into a single dense material, which he will cut, chisel or engrave using grinding wheels and diamond tools.
