An ocularist is a craftsman who specializes in the manufacture and fitting of custom-made ocular prostheses, usually made of resin or glass. These prostheses, called artificial eyes, are designed for patients who have lost an eye due to illness or accident. The ocularist must accurately recreate the appearance of the natural eye, reproducing the color of the iris, the size and appearance of the eyeball to ensure a harmonious aesthetic result. This profession requires skills in anatomy, aesthetics and manual precision.
