About
Born in Bavaria, Hans-Martin Bader learned violin making at the Matthias Klotz School in Mittenwald. He studies the violin, the cello and the guitar. He obtained his master’s degree in luthier in 1971 and opened his first lutherie workshop in Allaman before settling in 1982 in Premier, in a farm built in 1814. It was there that he practiced his art of lutherie which he alternates with working the land.
Hans-Martin Bader’s clientele extends well beyond the borders of the canton for his violins, violas, cellos and basses made according to old templates. In 2011, the book The luthier who loved the earth pays homage to his life as a craftsman and "farmer who does not have a tractor but a horse and who does not have a fridge but a good cellar".
