Claire et Jean Chevalley
Pottery artisans
Les Moulins (Château d'Oex)

« In my work as a potter, I favor authenticity, spontaneity, diversification and, if possible, a certain freshness. Jean Chevalley »

About

40 years ago, Claire and Jean Chevalley settled in the Pays-d’Enhaut. She is a teacher, he is a civil engineer. It all starts when Claire begins to make tableware: bowls, cups, pots. Little by little, Claire’s passion rubbed off on Jean, who set up a workshop, built an oven and familiarized himself with the various enameling and firing techniques.

« I started pottery as an amateur in its first sense: who loves. And I remained an amateur until today. Claire Chevalley »

In their workshop set up in the former stable adjoining their chalet, Claire and Jean Chevalley work with different types of clay and produce useful, generally decorated objects. She prefers to shoot, while he favors plate work. Their creations then cook between 1060 and 1300 degrees either in an electric oven or in a wood-fired oven.
