« What would happen if all plastics suddenly ceased to exist? »

On the objects of artistic crafts from the 17th to the 19th century, natural materials with various functions and forms can be found. Keratinous materials such as horn, tortoiseshell and whalebone, as well as bone, ivory and mother-of-pearl, were often combined with metals such as brass, tin, silver and gold, as well as various woods. Some of these natural materials come from animals whose species are now protected. With the disappearance of these materials from the market, much knowledge about their use and processing was lost in a short period of time.

Ulli Freyer still works in this specialty of Boulle marquetry. He restores and preserves historical objects of artistic craftsmanship, from furniture to watch cases and decorative arts objects.
