About
We would then be back in time before 1850. Natural materials with a variety of functions and designs can be found in 17th, 18th and 19th century craftsmanship. The keratin materials horn, tortoiseshell and whalebone as well as bone, ivory and mother-of-pearl were often processed in combination with the metals brass, pewter, silver and gold as well as various woods.
Some of these natural materials come from animals that are now protected species. With the disappearance of these materials from the market, much knowledge about their use and treatment has been lost in a short time.
Ulli Freyer still works in this particular area of Boulle marquetry and masters the necessary techniques. It restores and preserves the corresponding historical arts and crafts, from furniture and watch cases to arts and crafts.
