Rolle

« We must be as exact as possible, retranslate reality as well as possible and meet deadlines. »

About

Yves Gigon completed an apprenticeship and then obtained, in 1985, his CFC as a model maker in Jean-Claude Delafontaine’s studio in Lausanne. He then opened his first workshop in Gland in 1990, before settling in Begnins five years later. Working mainly with Swiss architects, he sometimes collaborates with designers and engineers, notably for the Grande-Dixence dam.

« The real model makers in French-speaking Switzerland can be counted on the fingers of one hand. »

In Rolle since 2000, Yves Gigon manufactures models for competitions, studies or promotion. The desired rendering and texture determine the materials used: wood, plaster, plexiglass, resin. The profession, in perpetual adaptation, is gradually integrating new digital, laser and soon 3D technologies. Yves Gigon has been training apprentices for over 25 years.
