Claude-Alain Giroud
Intaglio engraver
Yverdon-les-Bains

« I mainly work with the mezzotint and chisel because I like black and its nuances. Starting from the dark to go up towards the light opens up an infinity of ways for me to explore. »

About

After a career in international trade in Africa and at the Cantonal Geology Museum in Lausanne, Claude-Alain Giroud realized his dream in 2010 and opened an intaglio engraving workshop, an activity he has been practicing with passion since 1995. today, he teaches, exhibits in prestigious places and participates in numerous publications.

« The essential conditions for carrying out the black manner technique? Patience and perseverance. »

In his studio located in the former Leclanché factory in Yverdon, Claude-Alain Giroud has made the mezzotint technique his trademark. Equipped with a cradle, a tool with a rounded and toothed blade allowing the rocking of the copper plate, he carried out real precision work using a burnisher to bring his drawings to life by playing with the different shades of black.
