Raymond Meyer
Intaglio cutter
Lausanne

« There is something quite miraculous. These problems of pressure, bite, engraving are the essential things that make me get up in the morning to come to the workshop. »

About

Raymond Meyer studied at the School of Decorative Arts in Geneva where he learned the different engraving processes. In 1964, he continued by working in the studio of Pierre Cailler where he rubbed shoulders with Pietro Sarto. In 1973, he took over this workshop in his name. In 2004, he opened a second workshop in Lutry in which he installed a very large press to produce monumental engravings.

« I try to capture the weight of the artist’s hand, of being there not as a performer but to highlight this ink-filled size that will come out on the paper. »

The Raymond Meyer workshops are real meeting places where students from art schools as well as recognized artists come to create a work or improve their skills in the various engraving techniques. At the same time, Raymond Meyer publishes small books of poetry illustrated with engravings. He received several prizes, including the 2012 Awakening Prize awarded by the Fondation vaudoise pour la culture.
