About
Trained as a teacher, Elisabeth Nicollier has worked for more than 10 years in the manufacture of vegetable paper. In 2004, she fell in love with this art which diverted her from her pastels and her pencils and devoted herself entirely to this new field. Her workshop is located in the center of a mountain village but it is in nature that she obtains the plants necessary for creation.
To make her creations whether paintings, lamps or decorative clothing, Elisabeth Nicollier uses plants, such as nettle, iris, lily of the valley, hosta or even onion among so many other ’others. These ingredients are cooked for hours in an acid bath and then rinsed for a long time. Chopped, cut or left in their length, the fibers are used to make the paper itself which then goes to the press. The sheet thus obtained can be folded, glued or sewn for a new creation.
