Lucy Wingeier et Jérémy Corthay
Wood carving
Le Châble

« There is no wood particularly suitable for carving. Soft or hard, compact or woody, each species can be used depending on what you want to achieve. »

About

As a child, Jérémy Corthay took drawing lessons in his free time. After an apprenticeship as a carpenter, he turned to wood carving. He trained in Brienz where he met Lucy Wingeier, originally from Langnau in Emmental. Together, they opened a sculpture workshop in 2016 in Fontenelle. They sell their works in shops and markets and exhibit in their studio.

« Wood in all its facets is fascinating. Starting from a raw trunk, one can give life to unique sculptures. »

After roughing out the wood using circular saws and planers, Jérémy Corthay and Lucy Wingeier work mainly by hand. Using scissors and gouges, they make sculptures, notably of marmots, hens or cows. Jérémy also makes wooden clock mechanisms and Lucy leather engravings for bell straps, flasks or coin purses.
