This late change of orientation can be explained by a set of factors: parental pressure to exercise a specific profession or to do long studies, a lack of information concerning all the existing courses and professions or even disillusionment at the time of enter the world of work. In many cases, these young people finally turn to the manual trade they have always wanted to exercise. "There is still a very French state of mind which opposes intellectual work and manual work, whereas the two are constantly combined in the work of craftsmen", specifies François Moutot, director of the Permanent Assembly of the Chambers of trades and crafts (APCMA).
