About fifty professions will be presented at 28 locations in Geneva
From March 31 to April 2, 2017 in Geneva, the European Days of Crafts (JEMA) offer to meet craftsmen with unique know-how in their workshops or in singular places, to exchange with apprentices training centers in the canton or go behind the scenes in the region’s theatres, museums and libraries. New for this edition, the BFM becomes an ephemeral demonstration space.
For the first time, the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices (BFM), a former hydraulic factory converted into a performance hall, provides a majestic backdrop to the central location of the JEMA. 31 craftsmen from the Label Genève association transform the place into a large demonstration center on Friday and Saturday. Stone sculptor, glassblower, leatherworker, sailboat or art cutler are on the menu of trades that can be discovered and tested by the public. On site, families, students from the canton or anyone interested in these fascinating professions can find out about the training courses and conditions of access to Geneva and French-speaking Switzerland.
Another highlight, Vacheron Constantin offers the public a dive into the world of Haute Horlogerie on two sites of the Manufacture: the Maison en l’Ile and the Boutique Place Longemalle. Master engraver, enameller, guillocheur and watchmaker will introduce you to their profession with the passion that characterizes their works.
The JEMA is also an opportunity to go through the doors of the art studios that are found on street corners in Geneva’s neighborhoods. From Geneva to Chêne-Bourg via Plan-les-Ouates, Petit-Lancy, Perly, Confignon or Avully, discover the talent pool of the Geneva municipalities!
Finally, 7 training centers, 5 museums, 3 theaters and 1 library participate in JEMA through family, fun and cultural activities. The Ariana Museum offers a conference and a workshop led by an art illuminator, the Baur Foundation exhibits the best projects of HEAD students in an ephemeral exhibition, the Museum of Art and History (MAH) allows visitors to visit its restoration workshops while the Grand Théâtre lets you discover behind the scenes where the sets and costumes of the dream box shows are born.
