Lausanne - When violin making invites itself to "Time"

Le Temps, February 6, 2020

The violin is not finished. It will be in a month. The next step will be the varnishing before it is assembled. It is however the only instrument that the luthier David Léonard Wiedmer was able to present to the forty readers of Le Temps who came to listen to him talk about his profession on February 4th.

"Once the instruments are finished, they don’t stay in my studio for very long. The musicians who have ordered them from me want them immediately"

The 30-year-old Valaisan, based in Lyon, agreed to come and talk about his passion despite a packed schedule. "It’s full until 2026" he says without really believing it himself. The awards obtained in 2018 during the most prestigious luthiers competition in the world have borne fruit. But impose on him a sustained rhythm of creation, of about ten instruments per year. He is currently on his forty-first.
