Regional know-how may soon be registered with UNESCO - The application for know-how in watchmaking mechanics and artistic mechanics will be submitted at the end of March

RTN, February 26, 2019

Know-how in watchmaking mechanics and artistic mechanics could become part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The file will be submitted at the end of March to UNESCO in Paris, the working group is fine-tuning the final details. If the experts approve it, the application will be validated at the end of 2020. Eight Swiss applications are on the list of the Federal Office of Culture. Initially, the appellation only mentioned the know-how in watchmaking mechanics. But in addition to watches, automatons and music boxes are included, so the title has evolved. And the file has undergone another evolution: it has become cross-border. The neighboring Franche-Comté has joined the adventure, in particular the regions of Morteau and Besançon. The Councils of State of Neuchâtel and Vaud support the inclusion of know-how in watchmaking mechanics and artistic mechanics in the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. /msa
